SECTION 1: INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE

If you do not have OpenTransport on your system, drag the Folder called "Put In System Folder" onto your System Folder. The system will ask if you would like to place MacTCP into the Control Panels folder. Click OK.   (If you do have OpenTransport, you can go on to the next step.)

Locate the file on the provided diskette called "FreePPP Installer". Double click it to begin the dialer installation.If the installer tells you that the install requires all other applications to be quit, click "Continue" to quit those applications. When installation is complete, click "Restart" to restart the system.

SECTION 2: CONFIGURING YOUR MODEM

After restarting the system, go to the FreePPP
icon in the upper right hand corner of your
menu bar and choose "Open FreePPP Setup..."
from that menu.  

Click the "Modem Setup..." button.   Choose the correct port - most external modems will be connected to the modem port. Choose the most fitting port from the pop-up menu. (If you have an Apple Performa with an internal modem, click "Performa internal modem"). Be sure the "AutoDetect init string" button is checked. Click "OK" to continue.

SECTION 3: CONFIGURING DNS

If the button at the bottom of the window says "Open MacTCP...", continue here:

Click the "Open MacTCP..." button. You will be presented with the following window. Make sure "PPP" is highlighted; if not, click on it once. Then click the "More..." button.


Set "Obtain Address" to "Server". Do not change anything in the "IP Address" section. Make sure "Gateway Address" is blank. In the "Domain Name Server Information:" enter adm.ifn.net in the first box, and beside it, 66.81.101.2 and make sure the "Default" button is checked on this line. On the next line, enter dns.ifn.net and beside it, 66.81.101.9 for your secondary DNS server. Click "OK" to continue.

If the button at the bottom of the window says "Open TCP/IP...", continue here:

Click the "Open TCP/IP..." button. Be sure "Connect via" has "FreePPP" selected. Be sure "Configure" has "Using PPP Server" selected. For the "Name Server addr" section, enter 66.81.101.2 on the first line, and 66.81.101.9 on the second line. Close the window, and when asked if you want to save the configuration, be sure you click "Save".



SECTION 4: CONFIGURING A NEW CONNECTION

On the FreePPP window, click "Accounts" to configure a new connection. Click the "New" button. Enter "Internet Frontier" for the Server Name, and the local dial-in number in the Phone Number box.

Fill in your username and password in the corresponding boxes.
Make sure "Connect" is set to "Directly".

SECTION 5: CONNECTING

You are now ready to do a test connection. Choose "Open FreePPP Setup..." from the FreePPP menu bar menu. Then click "Connect" to dial in. Once you are connected, you can open Netscape or your favorite internet software and go for it!
